What is Xero accounting software training?
As the name suggests, Xero training is simply a course on learning how to use Xero. Our Xero training program starts from the very basics – how to add new entries and add expense categories. This increases in difficulty and advances to more complex tasks such as depreciating assets.
Our accounting instructors will start with the basics of accounting before even mentioning Xero. After all, one can’t use Xero without understanding what accounting is. For example, what is a fixed asset? How should you categorise an R&D (Research & Development) expense?
If a company were to invest $5,000 into a new machine, it should not simply be classified as an “Operating Expense”. Instead, you will need to classify it as an investment in a capital asset. That capital asset will then need to be depreciated every year before getting written off at the end of its useful life.
For example, say that the company invested $5,000 into a machine which has a useful life of 5 years. Say that the machine can be scrapped for $1,000 after 4 years. Depreciation (per year) would be ($5,000 – $1,000) / 5. This gives you $800 and you would have to depreciate the capital asset by $800 every year.
Basic accounting such as depreciation are usually not covered in standard Xero software training sessions. However, our Xero software trainers believe that mistakes and difficulty in learning come from a gap in foundational knowledge. Thus learning accounting is a crucial part of our Xero accounting training sessions.
I am an experienced accounting professional. Why do I need Xero accounting system training?
It is this type of thinking that puts older and experienced accountants at a disadvantage. Older accountants often complain about having to compete with younger accountants who seem to have more knowledge in newer technologies.
If you are an experienced accountant who refuses to learn Xero, you will get replaced. It’s like an investment banker to refuses to use Excel – you can’t do forecasts and projections without Excel!
Our Xero accounting system training courses are designed around helping you. But our trainers can’t force you to learn anything. The desire to learn has to come from yourself. You’ll never learn anything if you walk into one of our Xero accounting training sessions with a closed mind.
Nearly every business in Singapore uses Xero yet Xero software training is rarely provided by companies. This means that failing to learn Xero will put you at a huge disadvantage in finding a position as an accountant in Singapore.
