This also means that the ability to use Xero is extremely in-demand. It is essential for a bookkeeper to be able to use Xero.

What is Xero accounting software training?

As the name suggests, Xero training is simply a course on learning how to use Xero. Our Xero training program starts from the very basics – how to add new entries and add expense categories. This increases in difficulty and advances to more complex tasks such as depreciating assets.

Our accounting instructors will start with the basics of accounting before even mentioning Xero. After all, one can’t use Xero without understanding what accounting is. For example, what is a fixed asset? How should you categorise an R&D (Research & Development) expense?

If a company were to invest $5,000 into a new machine, it should not simply be classified as an “Operating Expense”. Instead, you will need to classify it as an investment in a capital asset. That capital asset will then need to be depreciated every year before getting written off at the end of its useful life.

For example, say that the company invested $5,000 into a machine which has a useful life of 5 years. Say that the machine can be scrapped for $1,000 after 4 years. Depreciation (per year) would be ($5,000 – $1,000) / 5. This gives you $800 and you would have to depreciate the capital asset by $800 every year.

Basic accounting such as depreciation are usually not covered in standard Xero software training sessions. However, our Xero software trainers believe that mistakes and difficulty in learning come from a gap in foundational knowledge. Thus learning accounting is a crucial part of our Xero accounting training sessions.

I am an experienced accounting professional. Why do I need Xero accounting system training?

It is this type of thinking that puts older and experienced accountants at a disadvantage. Older accountants often complain about having to compete with younger accountants who seem to have more knowledge in newer technologies.

If you are an experienced accountant who refuses to learn Xero, you will get replaced. It’s like an investment banker to refuses to use Excel – you can’t do forecasts and projections without Excel!

Our Xero accounting system training courses are designed around helping you. But our trainers can’t force you to learn anything. The desire to learn has to come from yourself. You’ll never learn anything if you walk into one of our Xero accounting training sessions with a closed mind.

Nearly every business in Singapore uses Xero yet Xero software training is rarely provided by companies. This means that failing to learn Xero will put you at a huge disadvantage in finding a position as an accountant in Singapore.

How will I be able to use WLP Academy’s certification?

All students who take our course and pass will receive a certificate. The certificate will state that you have completed WLP Academy’s Xero accounting training programme. This tells employers that you are equipped with the necessary skills and that you’re familiar with an important business software.

Most companies expect applicants to have an accounting degree from a university. But having a certification in an important accounting tool will definitely help your chances of getting an interview. During the interview, you may even be asked about your experience with Xero and how to do simple operations.

What are the prerequisites for your Xero bookkeeping course?

There are no prerequisites for WLP Academy’s Xero software training. However, we do recommend all students to study the fundamentals of accounting beforehand. Studying ahead to make sure that you can keep up is important. If you are an accounting or business graduate, you won’t need to do any preparation beforehand.

Our Xero software training sessions vary depending on whether you decide to sign up for our part-time or full-time course. We also provide Xero online training programmes

Quick FAQs

Why do I even need Xero accounting training?

Learning Xero has become the need of the hour for businesses today. It is an accounting software that helps you automate all your day-to-day bookkeeping tasks. You can have more time to focus on things that matter to you. Xero helps you to import bank transactions and send invoice reminders and generate revenue with Xero projects.

Can I access Xero offline?

No, you need an active Internet connection to “be in the cloud.” This just means that you must log onto Xero.com to use Xero. It’s not like Excel where you can use the software without an internet connection. But Xero doesn’t require a strong internet connection. Your mobile data or wifi at a local coffee shop will be enough for you to use Xero without any lag.

Is Xero too difficult to learn and use?

Absolutely. Xero was built for SMEs and is designed to be user-friendly. You should be able to easily use Xero even if you are a completely beginner to its user interface.

If you’ve used other accounting systems like Quickbooks, adapting to Xero shouldn’t take you more than a week.

What are the system requirements for Xero?

Xero is compatible with the following browsers:

  • Microsoft Edge
  • Google Chrome
  • Safari
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Internet Explorer 11

Different versions of Xero have different minimum requirements from the MacOS or Android.

It certainly would. Xero training is designed to cover the following sectors:

  • Retail
  • Construction
  • Information & Technology
  • Wholesale
  • Import and Export Business
  • Law firms

I want to take this course but my company uses Quickbooks. Will this Xero accounting training still be useful to me?

Yes, it will! Both Xero and Quickbooks are SME accounting systems. And accounting is the same regardless of the accounting software used. Terms like “depreciation” still have the same meaning and your financial statements should still look the same.

Going for accounting training of a different software for Xero might even give you certain realisations since you’d be able to see the differences between the two softwares.
